Teaching from a perspective of Pentecostal Systematic Theolgy
Pentecostal systematic theology is an expression of Christian doctrine centered on the active, ongoing work of the Holy Spirit (pneumatology) and the framework of the "Full Gospel". Rather than treating experience and doctrine as separate, it roots systematic categories in vibrant worship, divine healing, spiritual gifts, and personal encounters with God.
Core Distinctives
- The Full Gospel: Centers on Jesus as Savior, Healer, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and Soon-Coming King.
- Spirit Baptism: Views baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct, post-conversion experience typically evidenced by speaking in tongues.
- Pneumatological Lens: Interprets traditional doctrines—such as the Trinity, ecclesiology, and eschatology—through the active agency of the Holy Spirit.
- Affections and Praxis: Prioritizes embodied spiritual practice, testimony, and immediate divine encounter alongside traditional propositional truth. g
- Renewal Theology by J. Rodman Williams: A foundational three-volume systematic work integrating charismatic distinctives into classical Reformed-leaning categories.
- Pentecostal Theology: Living the Full Gospel by Wolfgang Vondey: A contemporary systematic overview framing doctrines through the lens of spiritual and physical renewal.
- Renewing Christian Theology by Amos Yong: Offers systematic engagement geared toward global Christianity and interdisciplinary dialogue.
- Types of Pentecostal Theology by Christopher A. Stephenson: Analyzes the methodological structures used by various Pentecostal theologians to build their systems.

Divine healing in the atonement is the theological belief that physical healing from sickness and disease was purchased by Jesus Christ through His suffering and death on the cross, just like the forgiveness of sins.
Key Biblical Passages
- Isaiah 53:4–5: Prophesies that "he was wounded for our transgressions... and with his stripes we are healed," which many traditions interpret as physical and spiritual restoration. [1, 2]
- Matthew 8:16–17: Connects Jesus' earthly healing ministry directly to Isaiah's prophecy, stating, "Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses". [1]
- 1 Peter 2:24: Repeats the Isaiah passage, applying Christ's suffering to the healing of believers. [1, 2]
- James 5:14–15: Instructs sick believers to call on the elders of the church for prayer and anointing with oil, linking faith, forgiveness, and restoration (using the Greek word sozo, meaning to save or make whole).
1. Yes – Physical Healing is in the Atonement (Pentecostal / Faith-Healing Traditions)
- Proponents (such as the Assemblies of God and many charismatic denominations) teach that Christ’s physical scourging and death at Calvary paid the penalty for both spiritual sin and physical sickness.
- Under this view, physical healing is a direct right available to believers in the present age through faith, though subject to God's will.

The Holy Spirit: actively at work today
At Willie Brown Pentecostal Ministries, we believe the Holy Spirit is actively at work today, just as He was in the early church. Our foundational Pentecostal teaching emphasizes that the supernatural gifts of the Spirit—such as healing, prophecy, and speaking in tongues—are active, living realities for modern believers. This teaching aims to move beyond rote tradition, connecting scriptural truth directly to personal spiritual growth and a deeper relationship with God. The primary purpose of receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is to gain power for Christian witness, service, and love in daily life, transforming hearts and empowering an effective witness for Christ.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit: power for purpose
The single most important takeaway from our teaching is that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a distinct, empowering experience meant to give believers supernatural boldness and power to live for Christ and share their faith. This experience is not merely salvation; it is a subsequent, empowering step that follows salvation, rather than being identical to it. Its primary goal is to supercharge a believer's ability to witness, serve, and love others effectively. It also opens the door to the active gifts of the Spirit, which often begins with the initial physical sign of speaking in tongues. Understand why this empowerment matters for your spiritual journey.

Your next step: experience, engage, and learn
